The study investigated causes of inadequate infrastructural facilities in Basic schools in FCT, Abuja, Nigeria. Descriptive research survey design was used for the study. The population is made up of three hundred (300) basic school teachers. 50 teachers from each of the area council in FCT totalling 300 basic school teachers were selected for the study. Purposive, Stratified and Systematic sampling technique were used to select the sample population from all the public universities in the region. A structured questionnaire, titled the ‘Investigation into causes of Inadequate Infrastructural Facilities Questionnaire’ (ICIIFQ) was used in collecting information for the study. The questionnaire contains 11 sub-question items, and the response options with values assigned to them are: YES and NO options. The reliability of the instrument was determined through the test re-test method. Thirty basic teachers were administered twenty (30) copies of the instrument closer in Lokoja and after two weeks, the questionnaire was re-administered to the same teachers. The scores of the first and second administrations were correlated using Pearson Product moment Correlation Co-efficient statistics and the correlation co-efficient value stood at 0.82 which was considered high enough to confirm the instrument is reliable. Data was collected by the questionnaire and were analyzed using percentage. The study concludes that underfunding, poor facilities planning, corruption, damages from students and teachers, poor school plant management and population increment are the causes of inadequate infrastructural facilities in FCT basic schools and the effects of inadequate infrastructural facilities include poor implementation of teaching programme, poor learning, bad international image, poor ranking and poor coverage of scheme of work.en-US
