Sustainable development remains one of the most multifaceted challenges that focus on meeting the needs of the present generation without putting the future ones at stake. The key issues militating against it must be addressed appropriately. Though it remains to be one of the most advocated development concepts worldwide but Africa witnesses limited signs of progress towards its success and applicability. With the increasing population in Africa and its expectation to own around a quarter of the world population, it becomes really tenable and urgent to carefully assess the functionality of the urban environment. It is understood the very concept of sustainable development is homegrown and is not exported from one place to another. Historically there has been a general tendency to follow the bandwagon effect of the Western-style systems and expertise, which is why many countries that fail to follow end up in failed attempts to create a sustainable environment. This essay focuses on the implications of urbanization all together in Africa. It will focus on some case studies giving example of Nigeria which is dealing with lingering security challenges. The essay will be highlighting the obstacles towards the path of sustainable development in Africa. The future prognosis will be given assessing the current and the past. The paper will conclude by providing a brief of the whole research, followed with recommendations for the country to achieve success towards sustainable development goals.en-US
