Bu kontseptsiya har bir shaxsga nisbatan sabr-toqat va bag'rikenglikni boshqalarga aralashmasdan yashash, o'zgalarning huquq va erkinliklarini kamsitmasdan huquq va erkinliklarga ega bo'lish qobiliyati sifatida ko'zda tutadi. Tolerantlik tushunchasi zamonaviy dunyoda katta ahamiyatga ega. 1995-yil 16-noyabrda Parijda YUNESKOga aʼzo davlatlarning 185 nafardan ortiq vakillari imzosi bilan tolerantlik tamoyillari deklaratsiyasi qabul qilindi va mazkur hujjatda ushbu atamaga oʻziga xos va aniq taʼrif berildi. Deklaratsiyada tolerantlik nafaqat ma'naviy burch, balki alohida shaxslar, odamlar guruhlari va davlatlar uchun siyosiy va huquqiy talab sifatida tavsiflanadi.en-US
