Abstract
Description
With the advent of new technologies, EFL teachers have started to take advantage of social media tools to enhance language teaching methodology. Growing respect and popularity of social media has resulted in organizing language classrooms out of traditional methods. Furthermore, social media has been used to accomplish most parts of teaching in an easy way. However, it is still common that EFL or ESL teachers still put emphasis on writing and reading with the sacrifice of speaking. Therefore, speaking is still a great challenge for teachers to teach and for students to learn. The current research aims at investigating how the use of social media tools, specifically TED Talks can improve students’ speaking skills. The research was carried out among intermediate learners of a specialized secondary school. The research findings show that participants were able to move from the level of modest user to competent user after TED talks have been integrated into their classes.
