Abstract
Description
The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that most of the terms of consanguinity of the Russian and English languages have identical Indo-European origin. The scientific novelty lies in the identification of semantic, structural, phonetic and functional features of the etymology of terms of consanguinity of unrelated languages (Russian and English), which was not previously the subject of study in linguistics. When conducting a thorough comparative analysis, we relied on a wide range of lexicographic sources of both Russian and English. As a result of the study, the percentage of terms with identical etymology was established for the first time.
